Lord Ivar Mountbatten & Mr James Coyle get married
On 22nd September 2018, in the private chapel at his beautiful home - Bridwell Park, Uffculme, Devon, Lord Ivar Mountbatten (b.1963) - youngest son of David, 3rd Marquess of Milford Haven (1919-1970) has married James 'Jimmy' Coyle (b.1962), an airline cabin services director, who he met in Verbier, Switzerland in 2015. Ivar was previously married to Penelope Thompson (b.1966) and had three daughters. They separated in 2010, divorced in November 2011 and in September 2016, Ivar announced that he was in a relationship with James - the first openly same-sex relationship within either the Royal Family, the extended Royal Family and their relations.

Ivar's close friend (and cousin) Prince Edward, The Earl of Wessex (b.1964) and his wife Sophie (b.1965) - who are godparents of his daughters Ella (b.1996) and Alix (b.1998), were sadly unable to attend the wedding, however they sent their warmest congratulations. Ivar is godfather of The Wessex's eldest child - The Lady Louise Windsor (b.2003). In an unusual twist, there was no wedding cake - but a tiered block of their favourite cheeses. A truly unconventional thing for a most modern marriage.

The wedding was a very happy occasion (despite the bad weather), fully supported by Ivar's children and his former wife who 'gave him away'. Jimmy’s dog Rosie was "exhausted from participating in the marriage ceremony, not to mention hoovering up all the scraps falling from the party tables" and proudly wore an LGBT rainbow ribbon too. The guests were entertained by the Bristol Teachers Rock Choir. The newlyweds requested that guests donate to the spinal injury charity Regain instead of gifts. Lord Ivar is the Chairman of the charity's board of Trustees.
