1917 when his father renounced his German Princely style and title and was created Marquess of Milford Haven, Earl of Medina & Viscount Alderney by King George V (1865(1910-1936).  Created Viscount Mountbatten of Burma on 27th August 1946.  Appointed Viceroy of India & Governor-General of India on 12th February 1947.  Appointed Governor-General of the Dominion of India (following Independence) on 28th October 1947.  Created Earl Mountbatten of Burma & Baron Romsey on 28th October 1947.  Murdered (by a bomb planted by the IRA) on 27th August 1979, off the coast of Mullaghmore, Co. Sligo, Republic of Ireland.  Following a Royal Ceremonial Funeral at Westminster Abbey, London, he was subsequently buried at Romsey Abbey, Hampshire on 5th September 1979.  Married on 18th July 1922 at St Margaret’s Church, Westminster, London - The Hon. Dame Edwina Cynthia Annette ASHLEY, CI, GBE, DCVO, born 28th November 1901 at 32 Bruton Street, Mayfair, London, the daughter of Lieutenant-Colonel The Rt Hon. Wilfrid William ASHLEY, 1st Baron Mount Temple (1867-1939) and Amalia Maud 'Maudie' Mary CASSEL (1879-1911), the only child of The Rt Hon. Sir Ernest Joseph CASSEL, GCB, GCMG, GCVO (1852-1921) and Miss Annette Mary Maud MAXWELL (1855-1881).  Following her marriage she was styled Lady Louis Mountbatten and more informally as Lady Louis.  Died on 21st February 1960 in Jesselton, North Borneo, now known as Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia.  Buried at sea in The Solent, off the coast of Portsmouth, Hampshire on 25th February 1960.

• Patricia Edwina Victoria MOUNTBATTEN, CBE, MSC, CD, DL, 2nd Countess Mountbatten of Burma, 2nd Viscount Mountbatten of Burma & 2nd Baroness Romsey, born on 14th February 1924 at Brook House, Park Lane, London. Succeeded upon the death of her father (under special remainder) as 2nd Countess Mountbatten of Burma, 2nd Viscountess Mountbatten of Burma and 2nd Baroness Romsey on 27th August 1979. Died 13th June 2017 at Newhouse, Mersham, Ashford, Kent. Married on 26th October 1946 at Romsey Abbey, Hampshire – Captain John Ulick KNATCHBULL, CBE, 7th Baron Brabourne & 16th Baronet of Mersham Hatch, Coldstream Guards, born 9th November 1924, the son of Sir Michael Herbert Rudolf KNATCHBULL (formerly KNATCHBULL-HUGESSEN), GCSI, GCIE, MC, 5th Baron Brabourne & 14th Baronet of Mersham Hatch (1895-1939), a former Governor of Bombay, Governor or Bengal and sometime Acting Viceroy of India & Governor-General of India, and The Lady Doreen 'Dodo' Geraldine BROWNE, CI (1896-1979) – who was killed in the same bomb explosion with Louis, 1st Earl Mountbatten of Burma (as above), the daughter of George Ulick BROWNE, FRGS, FZS, 6th Marquess of Sligo (1856-1935) and Miss Agatha Stewart HODGSON (1867-1965).  Succeeded to the Barony and Baronetcy on 15th September 1943, following the death of his elder brother - Lieutenant Norton Cecil Michael KNATCHBULL, 6th Baron Brabourne & 15th Baronet of Mersham Hatch, Grenadier Guards (1922-1943), who was executed at Bronzolo, South Tyrol, Italy, whilst trying to escape (whilst a Prisoner of War) during World War II.  Died on 23rd September 2005 at Newhouse, Mersham, Ashford, Kent.

• Norton Louis Philip KNATCHBULL, 3rd Earl Mountbatten of Burma, 3rd Viscount Mountbatten of Burma, 3rd Baron Romsey, 8th Baron Brabourne & 17th Baronet of Mersham Hatch, born on 8th October 1947 at King's College Hospital, London. Styled Lord Romsey upon his mother succeeding as 2nd Countess Mountbatten of Burma etc. on 27th August 1979.  Succeeded to the Barony and Baronetcy of his father upon his death on 23rd September 2005. Succeeded to the Earldom, Viscountcy and Barony of his mother on 13th June 2017. Married on 20th October 1979 at Romsey Abbey, Hampshire – Miss Penelope 'Penny' Meredith EASTWOOD, born 16th April 1953 in Hammersmith, London, the daughter of Major Reginald Wray Frank EASTWOOD (1912-1980) and Miss Marian Elizabeth HOOD (1926-2020).  Separated in 2010.

Nicholas 'Nick' Louis Charles Norton KNATCHBULL, (Lord Brabourne), born 15th May 1981 at King's College Hospital, London.   Officially styled Lord Brabourne upon his father succeeding as 3rd Earl Mountbatten of Burma on 13th June 2017, but does not use the courtesy title.  Married (civil) on 20th May 2021 at Broadlands, Romsey - Miss Ambre POUZET (also known as SAINT-CLARE) (b. 24th July 1984 in Paris, France).

• The Lady Alexandra Victoria Edwina Diana KNATCHBULL, born 5th December 1983 at King's College Hospital, London.  From birth used the style of Honourable, but upon her father succeeding as 3rd Earl Mountbatten of Burma on 13th June 2017, she used the style of Lady.  Married on 25th June 2016 at Romsey Abbey, Hampshire - Thomas Edward Huntly HOOPER (b.1979), the son of Peter Huntly HOOPER (b.1950) and Patricia M. 'Tiggy' BUCKNILL (b.1951).
