ITV broadcast a landmark documentary with Lady Pamela Hicks (b.1929) reminiscing to her daughter, India (b.1967) about her extraordinary life as a friend, confidante, cousin, bridesmaid and lady-in-waiting to Queen Elizabeth II (1926(1952-    ).   In this new documentary to mark the forthcoming 95th birthday of The Queen, filmed principally at her home - The Grove, near Brightwell Baldwin, South Oxfordshire, the house she shared with her late husband, David Hicks (1929-1998), Pamela talks about her unique experiences - including:

  • being one of the 8 bridesmaids at the 1947 wedding of her cousins - The Queen & Prince Philip, 1st Duke of Edinburgh (1921-2021);

  • the death of King George VI (1895(1936-1952), and how the news was broken.   Apart from The Queen, Pamela is the only person alive to witness the events of the day The Queen was informed of her father’s death and succeeded to The Throne;

  • attending the 1953 Coronation of The Queen;

  • being Lady-in-Waiting at The Queen's Coronation Tour throughout the Commonwealth.  Pamela read extracts of her personal diary and how she kept The Queen amused;

  • her personal relationship with her cousins - The Queen and Prince Philip, 1st Duke of Edinburgh (1921-2021);

  • her 1960 wedding to David Hicks (1929-1998);

  • the events of the day that Mountbatten (Pamela's father) was murdered in 1979.  She explained how she personally told The Queen of the news;

  • India being a bridesmaid at the 1981 wedding of Prince Charles, The Prince of Wales (b.1948) to Lady Diana Spencer (1961-1997), and the two former bridesmaids compare their dresses;

  • her personal thoughts of The Queen and how she has seen her develop in her role as Sovereign.
