DEATH OF THE COUNTESS MOUNTBATTEN OF BURMA
Mountbatten's eldest daughter Patricia has died - aged 93yrs

Patricia, 2nd Countess Mountbatten of Burma
Patricia, 2nd Countess Mountbatten of Burma - Mountbatten's eldest daughter, died aged 93yrs on 13th June 2017 at her home - 'Newhouse' in Mersham, near Ashford, Kent. Her god-son - Prince Charles, The Prince of Wales (b.1948) said that Patricia "played an extremely important part in his life" and "would miss her presence most dreadfully”. Over recent years, Patricia's health and mobility issues had been of concern most notably after she attended the society wedding in June 2016 of her granddaughter - Alexandra (b.1982) at Romsey Abbey in a wheelchair.

27 JUN 2017 -
Patricia's funeral service was held on 27th June 2017 at St Paul's Church, Knightsbridge, London and was attended by her third cousin - Queen Elizabeth II (1926(1953- ), Prince Philip, The Duke of Edinburgh (b.1921) and many members of the Royal Family including Prince Charles, The Prince of Wales (b.1948); Prince Andrew, The Duke of York (b.1960); Princess Anne, The Princess Royal (b.1950); Sophie, The Countess of Wessex (b.1965); Birgitte, The Duchess of Gloucester (b.1946); Prince Edward, The Duke of Kent (b.1935); Princess Alexandra, The Hon. Lady Ogilvy (b.1936) and Prince Michael of Kent (b.1942). She was subsequently buried privately at St John the Baptist Church, Mersham, Kent.

Following Patricia's death, her eldest son - Norton, 8th Lord Brabourne (b.1947) succeeded as 3rd Earl Mountbatten of Burma, 3rd Viscount Mountbatten of Burma and 3rd Lord Romsey. His wife - Penny (b.1953) will subsequently became styled Countess Mountbatten of Burma and their eldest daughter - Alexandra (b.1982) will be styled The Lady Alexandra Hooper. As is custom, the family will not use their new titles until after the funeral. In 1979, following Mountbatten's murder, Patricia succeeded as the 2nd Countess (in her own right by special remainder) and her eldest son Norton used the courtesy title of Lord Romsey, however in 2005 he succeeded his father as 8th Lord Brabourne. Following numerous precedent, Norton has subsequently decided that his heir will use the Barony of Brabourne as a courtesy title rather than the Barony of Romsey, and so The Hon. Nicholas Knatchbull (b.1981) will officially be styled Lord Brabourne.
