ROMSEY DISTRICT SCOUTS
The Hon. Alexandra Knatchbull becomes President

The Romsey District Scout Group has appointed The Hon. Alexandra Knatchbull (b.1982) as their new President.  Her father - Norton, 8th Lord Brabourne (b.1947) relinquished the role in 2010.  Alexandra is not only the first female President, but she is also the youngest - she is 29yrs old.  Previous Presidents have included her illustrious great-grandfather - Mountbatten.  Romsey District Commissioner John Papworth said - “We are very pleased to be able to continue our long association with the Broadlands Estate and Alexandra has already expressed a wish to spend time meeting the young people and joining in their activities.”

Alexandra’s appointment follows on from her third cousin’s wife - Catherine, The Duchess of Cambridge (b.1982) doing voluntary work for the Scouts Association - which has noticed an increase in membership.  Her role as President includes ceremonial duties such as presenting awards, hosting receptions, proposing toasts and attending events as an official representative of Romsey Scouting.   Upon her appointment, Alexandra said - “I am delighted to be able to accept this invitation especially as it means continuing my family’s links with this particularly worthwhile organisation that provides such a beneficial role to the community.”
